Happy first official week of SPRING! It may not feel like it yet in Portland, but warmer weather is on the way. Isn’t it amazing how a little bit of sunshine puts us all in a better mood and ready to get outside?
I always feel like my workout routine gets a little stagnant towards the end of winter; ski season is coming to an end, I’m not going snowshoeing and the weather isn’t great for doing anything outdoors. If you’re like me, you need a little reboot. Here are some of the things I look forward to doing most as soon as warmer weather hits:
Walking to work – I’m lucky enough to live about a mile away from work, so walking to and from is pretty easy. If distance isn’t working in your favor, try walking to run an errand or just parking a few blocks away from your destination to give yourself some outdoor time.
Biking- We have so many great bike trails in and around Southern Maine. If you’re in the market for a new bike (or looking to trade in for a newer model), the Great Maine Bike Swap is happening at USM the end of April, check out http://maineswap.com/event-details/ for more info!
Beach time – It won’t be warm enough to swim or sunbathe for a little bit still, but the beach this time of year is great for jogging, walking, Frisbee, football or even (as I saw this weekend) corn hole!
Gardening – Even if you don’t have a lot of outdoor space you can still grow your own herbs and veggies. I use large pots to grow salad greens, tomatoes, cucumbers and bell peppers from my porch! You can also look into renting space in a community garden near you or making your own raised beds if you have a yard. Gardening can be a great work out and you get fresh produce as a result.
Happy Spring Everybody! What are you looking forward to most?
