Hi everyone!
I just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I’m Matt, Absolute Health Chiropractic’s new Rehabilitation Assistant. I’m going to be writing blogs here regularly, and hoping to get one up every week or so. I graduated with an Exercise Science degree from the University of New England and have worked in the Athletic Performance/Fitness field for the past 3 years so I will bring a bit of a different perspective to the table. You can read my extended bio at Absolute Health Chiropractic. Any questions about anything or suggestions on what you would like to see on the blog are welcomed.
We have put up a new word in the patient rooms and poster in the lobby. The word is Bowling Ball and the poster is below.
The picture connects perfectly with our word. The average human head weighs 10-12lbs which is the size of a bowling ball. Look at the picture and replace the head with a bowling ball. Imagine the weight that it places on the spine. Our body is built to handle that weight while we are standing, or sitting with correct posture. However this is where the problem arises.
Poor posture is something nearly everyone suffers from, including myself. Ideally everyone would have their desk and chair fit to their body. For instance, if your monitor is too low it will cause you to lean forward. If your keyboard is too far away it will cause your shoulders to come forward. If your chair has poor lumbar support, you will lose your natural spinal curves and drift forward. The list goes on. This creates a BIG problem for our body, not just our upper back.
We can’t stop what you do for work but we can help your body get back into balance. Through adjustments and active care we work towards getting your body back to the way it should be, making movements more efficient and correct posture feel more natural instead of a chore. I’m sure when you saw that picture that you sat up straight, and then went back to your “normal” posture because being upright was too tiring. Now wouldn’t it be great if it felt more natural and not take effort to be in an upright position? That’s where we can help. Our goal is to help you achieve more appropriate posture without having to think about it.
See you at the Clinic!
Matt
